The Challenge - Van Deck Waterproofing
As part of Amazon’s continued expansion in last-mile logistics, a new elevated van deck was constructed at its Leyland distribution site to support a large fleet of Mercedes Sprinter vans. The deck will also serve as a future base for EV charging infrastructure, meaning long-term waterproofing performance was essential.
The project needed a fast-track van deck waterproofing system that could be applied efficiently through the winter months, without compromising quality or delaying operations. Any interruption to the programme could have affected Amazon’s regional logistics network.
The Solution
To meet the tight deadlines and cold-weather challenges, 4M Floors UK partnered with Flowcrete to install Deckshield Rapide ED1, a PMMA-based rapid-cure waterproofing system.
This system was chosen for its proven ability to perform under pressure:

Working closely with Flowcrete’s technical team, 4M Floors completed the full installation across the 8,000 m² deck in just eight weeks — keeping the project fully on schedule.
The Result
The project was successfully completed in March 2025, delivering a seamless, robust, and watertight surface ready to handle constant vehicle movement and future EV infrastructure.
The Deckshield Rapide ED1 system provided a clean, uniform finish across the entire deck — protecting the structure beneath while ensuring safe, efficient use for Amazon’s operations team.
This scheme also stood out for its drone footage, which captured the scale and precision of the installation from above — showcasing 4M’s attention to detail and the flawless finish achieved under challenging conditions.
